Oxaliplatin, also known as oxaliplatin or oxaliplatin, is a platinum derivative used clinically to treat patients with colorectal cancer metastasis who have failed treatment with fluorouracil. It can be used alone or in combination with fluorouracil and is the third generation of new platinum based anti-tumor compounds after cisplatin and carboplatin. The principle of action is to generate alkylated complexes that act on DNA, forming intra - and inter chain crosslinks to inhibit DNA synthesis and replication. It also has an inhibitory effect on the proliferation of ovarian cancer and melanoma cell lines
