Chlorophenyl glycol is a preservative widely used in cosmetics and is compatible with most preservatives (including potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, methyl isothiazolinone). It is a white crystal and usually has a weak characteristic smell. The melting point is 77.0-80.5 ºC. Slightly soluble in water (about 0.5%). The solubility in 95% ethanol is 5%. Soluble in ethers. Slightly soluble in non-volatile oil, insoluble in white oil. Microbial control performance: can provide improved broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. It has the ability to inhibit and kill G +, G -, Aspergillus Niger, Penicillium sp., Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
